What ages is the book for?

Crying in Color is written for ages 3–10, but older kids (and even adults) find its message meaningful too. It's truly for anyone with feelings — which is all of us. 💜 Here I am, feeling it all.

What makes this book different?

Instead of hiding tears, Crying in Color celebrates and seeks to understand them. Crying isn't just about being sad or happy — it's a release of a whole rainbow of emotions: frustration, relief, joy, anger, empathy, and more. This book invites readers to get curious about the feelings behind their tears, and in doing so, to discover the richness of being human. That curiosity helps us better understand ourselves, one another, and the many ways we experience life together.

When should I order for holiday delivery?

Holiday Pre-Sale Deadlines:

• Order by December 1st for early December arrival
• Order by December 10th for arrival by Christmas

You'll receive a confirmation email with tracking once your order ships.

Where will the book be available?

You can purchase directly from our website (signed copies, bundles, and keepsakes) and through select independent bookstores.

Are your website copies special?

Yes! All books purchased through our site are signed by both the author and illustrator. Some bundles also include exclusive keepsakes and digital reflection guides not available anywhere else. 🌟 Every teardrop has a color.

What comes in the Keepsake Bundle?

The Keepsake Bundle ($24) includes a signed copy of Crying in Color, a handcrafted Tear Jar Keepsake filled with colorful resin teardrops, a soft muslin bag, and the "Story of the Tear Jar" insert. It's a tangible reminder that every feeling matters.

What comes in the Family Bundle?

The Family Bundle ($38) includes a signed copy of Crying in Color, a deck of 40 reflective conversation starters inspired by the five colors of teardrops, soft muslin storage bag, four coloring sheets and digital download for kids and grown-ups, and a letter from our family to yours. Perfect for families who want to go beyond the story and create meaningful conversations about emotions.

What add-ons are available?

We offer three types of add-ons:

• Extra Tear Jar Keepsake ($8): Get one for each child or hang one on the tree as an annual reminder. Includes the keepsake, muslin bag, and story insert.
• Reminder Sticker 3-Pack ($9): Three waterproof vinyl stickers with messages like "Tears are welcome here," "It's okay to cry," and "Here I am, feeling it all."
• Tissue Box Stickers ($5 each): Individual 4x4 waterproof vinyl stickers for tissue boxes. Choose from four designs: "It's okay to cry," "Big feelings? Bring them on," "What color are your tears?" and "Tears are welcome here."

Can I buy just the add-ons without a bundle?

Yes! All add-ons can be purchased separately. They're perfect for classrooms, therapy spaces, or as thoughtful gifts.

Where do you ship?

Currently, we only ship within the United States. We're working on expanding to international shipping in the future. If you're outside the US and interested in our books, please sign up for our newsletter to be notified when international shipping becomes available.

Do you accept returns or refunds?

Because of the nature of signed books and custom bundles, all sales are final. If your order arrives damaged, we'll make it right — just email us.

Who are the creators?

Crying in Color was written by Kate San Juan, a former early childhood educator and education consultant with an M.S. in Early Childhood Education, and illustrated by her husband, Kevin San Juan, a Chicago-based creative who brings imagination to life through watercolor. Together, they create books and tools that help families celebrate emotions and come closer together. Learn more →
